By Eriani Doyel In the past, it was only the rich and famous who opted to get plastic surgery nips, tucks, and lifts, but it has become more and more common as it becomes more affordable and accessible to the general population. Although the tabloids still love to speculate on who has had work done, it is not seen as such a big deal anymore to try to recapture youth or to enhance a feature. But it is a big deal. If you are considering any type of plastic surgery, you should consider your options very carefully. Surgery is serious no matter what type, and if you decide to have it done, you need to have a wonderful, qualified surgeon and all of the facts first. For those who suffer from a serious burn, injury, or an unsightly birthmark, plastic surgery can be a great confidence booster. Reconstructive technology has come a long way in the last few years and there have been some nearly miraculous developments. In this situation, the surgery may almost be considered a medical necessity. On the other hand, much of the cosmetic surgery that is done today is done as an elective procedure. The patient may feel uncomfortable about some feature or may just want to enhance their looks with plastic surgery. This can also be a confidence booster for some individuals. But, the patient needs to know what they can expect as far as the outcomes of the surgery. If the surgeon dismisses any fears and tells the patient that everything will be perfect you may have cause for concern. Realistically one to four percent of plastic surgery patients may experience difficulties. Difficulties associated with surgery may include problems with symmetry (the sides dont match,) infection, swelling, and even death in extreme cases. This is why it is so important to choose the surgeon for your plastic surgery carefully. You can contact your state Board of Medical Examiners to find out about any claims or complaints against any surgeon, and also find out what the outcomes of those complaints or claims were. If you know anyone who has had the same type of plastic surgery you are considering ask them about their experience. You can also go online and find reviews and ratings of doctors. Ask your potential surgeon how may plastic surgery procedures of your type they have done. Experience is a really important factor. Ask them to see before and after pictures of patients if they have them. Talk to them about what you can expect before, during, and after the procedure. Find out about recovery time and follow up care after your plastic surgery. If your potential surgeon is not comfortable, or does not want to take the time to answer your questions, you may want to look elsewhere. Cosmetic surgery can be a real confidence booster for many. It is not a cure-all, but it can be a start. Eriani Doye writes articles about Health, Fitness, and Beauty. Resume Success Factors--What Exactly Is A Resume Anyway?
By Peter Hill You know you're good...real good. The problem, though, is that you are struggling to demonstrate just how good you are on paper. Ah...the resume. If you've ever written one you know what a challenging task it can be. The Gregg Reference Manual tells us some fundamental facts about resumes: The purpose of your resume is to get you an employment meeting. An interview. Your resume will not get you a job. Your resume is not a medium for telling prospective employers about your long-term goals and aspirations. It is where you appeal to their hiring motivations by demonstrating what you can do for them, communicating the experience you have acquired and skills you have developed. With these basic concepts in mind, let's summarize several other elements that your contemporary resume must include: R = Review of your qualifications E = Essential information only S = Showcase your value U = You are Unique! M = Market yourself E = Effectively gets you noticed -------------------------------------------- R = Review of your qualifications -------------------------------------------- What skills, education, or experience (paid or unpaid) do you have that make you the ideal candidate for the opportunity, industry, or career you are pursuing? These data bits are the building blocks of any resume. They are absolute musts. Most self-written resumes do a pretty decent job of listing skills and education, but fail miserably in the Experience section. More on how to address this challenge when we get to the "S" below. ---------------------------------------- E = Essential information only ---------------------------------------- Your resume should not be a voluminous listing of everything you have done, everywhere you have done it, and every club or association you've ever been affiliated with. Chisel your copy down to content that is relevant to your target job/career path. Suppose you are a marketing professional. Your memberships in the American Marketing Association, the Direct Marketing Association, and the Public Relations Society of America belong on your resume. Your memberships in the local dog trainers club and the American Dog Owners Associaiton can clearly be left off (unless you are applying for a marketing position with the Humane Society). ------------------------------------ S = Showcase your value ------------------------------------ Value. Employers want to know specifically what value you can bring to their organization. If you earn an hourly wage, you are not paid by the hour -- you are paid by the VALUE that you bring to that hour. If you are salaried, you don't get paid by the month -- you are compensated for the VALUE that you bring to that month. One of the most effective ways to communicate value on your resume is to address the burning question, "Why should we hire you?" You must identify what specific contributions (that is, verifiable accomplishments) you have made at previous employers. This critical information is proof that you can do the same at your next job. Showcasing you unique accomplishments is simultaneously simple and complex. It is simple because the best contributions are somehow related to the bottom line (money, profits). The challenge lies in how to reframe what you've done relative to increased profits, reduced costs, or productivity enhancements. How can your resume show that you've helped previous organizations solve a specific problem, be more competitive, expand business, attract new customers, or retain existing ones? ---------------------------------- U = You are Unique! ---------------------------------- Your resume must be unique in content and in format. The information will be unique because, as mentioned above, you will have pinpointed those accomplishments that will set you apart from other applicants. Unique formatting means not using those templates that came packaged with your word-processing software! A cookie-cutter resume will not do justice to you or your career. Bookstores are full of excellent resources with samples of compelling resumes to ignite your creativity. ------------------------------------ M = Market yourself ------------------------------------ A superior resume utilizes proven marketing concepts such as headlines (rather than boring objective statements). It stresses the benefits you have to offer (how you can contribute), not just features (what you were responsible for). Catch the attention of prospective employers on the first page with a powerfully written Profile or Qualifications Summary. Resumes are initially scanned for roughly 15 to 30 seconds. If you've lost the reader's interest at the top of the first page, he/she will not read further. Your resume will go in the "no" pile. ------------------------------------------------ E = Effectively gets you noticed ------------------------------------------------ There is no such thing as a "good" or "bad" resume. There are only "effective" or "ineffective" ones. By weaving the concepts above into your resume, you can increase your odds of getting noticed by those with the authority to recommend you for the next step in the hiring process -- a telephone, teleconference, or in-person interview. You know you're good...real good. You are now challenged to prove it on your resume. Guide to World Markets
By Mansi Aggarwal It has been centauries since the countries of the world understood the interdependence of each on the other. The phenomena of globalization are one of the reasons of this interdependence. The countries are trading among each other through economic zones. Also the business in the stock market has gone Trans national. All the stock markets of the world make an impact on each others trading patterns. Thus stock exchanges are strong indicators of the international business. Another advantage, as it may be called to the business, is the difference in the labor costs in the different countries. The booming business of outsourcing is an offshoot of this concept. The outsourcing business is now moving from the business processes to the manufacturing too. The practices like interdependence of the stock exchanges and the phenomena of outsourcing are causing great concerns to the domestic companies. The impact of outsourcing on the domestic labor is drastic. The stock exchange index is generally confined to one country. However there are some indices, which are found in many other countries of the world too. Americas Dow Jones and S&P 500 are some of the indices. Industry specific index can also be found. The Moran Stanley Biotech index is one such. They are referred to as specialty exchanges. The NASDAQ in New York is the worlds first electronic exchange. Set up in 1971, it has approximately 3200 companies listed with it. There are several indexes in the NASDAQ with separate base numbers and for different companies listed in them. For example there is a NASDAQ 100 index. It has base number 125 and has been traded on since 1994. Then there is NASDAQ Composite where most of the companies do business. London too is one of the business hubs of the world. The stock exchange is one of the most influential ones. The kings of international businesses have their home ground sin London and they operate their world business from there. Being one of the biggest human settlements in the United Kingdom, London has a business of over 117,000 million pounds. The London stock exchange has been in existence since 1698 when commodity trade was rampant in the country. Nikkei 225 is the index of the Tokyos Stock Exchange. The markets can boast of being the technologically most advanced in Asia if not the world. Japan after the wrath of the war of 1945 has emerged out to become one of the controllers of world trade. The work culture in the country is unmatched by any country of the world. Probably this is the reason why it is has been the world business leader for a long time. Most blue-chip companies are listed on this market. The hazards of speculative businesses are all around. The companies have created the tricks to trade out the non-productive scrip. Insider trading, for example, means floating false information in the market by those who are at the helm of affairs. The same misguides the traders. This has to be curbed by adding a deterrent to such practices. Mansi aggarwal writes about world markets. The Purpose of a Drain
By Danielle Robinson I once heard someone say there are three sides to every story. Your side, my side and the truth. When it comes to drains and putting them in your pond everyone has a different opinion. Some say its a good idea, other claim that its a waste of time why even bother. Well after reading this article hopefully you can come up with your own truth on whether putting a drain in your pond is really a good idea. The main purpose for having a drain at the bottom of your pond is actually for your fish. Your drain will pick up all of you fishs waste and the other solids that can collect in your pond. Some people say that having a drain in the bottom of your pond is bad because it removes all of the ammonia and aerates. Which we all know keeps our pond clear and healthy. Even though this is partially true it should have little effect when your pond is 5 feet or deeper. Even so, the benefits of having a drain out way this small amount of evidence. When your pond was built with a liner or if you are planning on building one, make sure that the liner has a small hole in the lowest portion. You should create this hole of course for your drain. By doing this you are eliminating possible leaks in the future. Many people dont agree with this nature claiming that it takes up time and it can be expensive to install a drain. The only time that I would agree with this is if you have a small shallow pond. It can be quite expensive as well as a hassle but the end results are worth it. make sure that if you plain on getting a drain that there are no rocks or gravel on the liner. Having rocks would totally delete the drains purpose. When you have drain located at the bottom of your pond you are reassured that the water is going through it properly and that your water is being recirculated. Which works really well for larger ponds. Most pumps and waterfalls can aerate your pond water as well. The best way to test your pond conditions for this matter is by looking at the dissolved oxygen levels with a meter. With a bottom drain however you already know thats its clearly doing its job. Well now that we have reached the end I hope that I have made your decision on the matter at hand a little easier. Like anything else that comes with owning a watergarden you have many choices in which you can make. You can go back and forth with why getting a drain is good or why getting a drain is bad. At the end of the day decide what you think is best for you and what would properly benefit you in the long run. Dannielle Robinson is a Chicago based freelance writer and water gardening enthusiast. She has made a study of water gardening, ponds, and pond kits, and she provides consulting to friends and neighbors who are interested in contracting her services. How to Get Your Cheapest Cell Phone Service Plan and Providers
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Daymon_Hoag]Daymon Hoag Shopping for a good cell phone service plan is not the same
as shopping for garbage bags where more often than not,
cheaper is better. Even with garbage bags you get what you
pay for. Finding the best cellular provider for your
personal needs is a bit more complicated, but doesn't have
to be painful or mind boggling. We are all naturally inclined to search for the cheapest
cell phone service the same way we might scan over flyers in
the Sunday paper looking for those cheap prices and special
offers. If this is how you are shopping for cell phone
carriers, you are not going to be a very happy camper once
you start getting your bill. There are two major factors you absolutely must consider
before you purchase a cell phone plan. Usage, and plan
types. By understanding your calling habits, and the
difference in cell phone calling plans, you've already won
half the battle in lowering your cell phone bill or keeping
you cellular bill low before you even purchase a plan. A common misconception is that cell phone service can be
grouped into two plan types. Prepaid and monthly. While this
is somewhat true, prepaid itself can also be broken down
into two separate categories. Monthly prepaid, and pay as
you go. Before considering your usage you'll want to make
sure you understand the plans. Pay as you go cell phone service is a type of prepaid
cellular plan that allows you to use the cell phone service
very much the same way you might use a prepaid phone card by
purchasing your minutes in advance. A pay as you go cell
phone plan is best for people who just want the cell phone
for emergencies, or will rarely use the cell phone. Monthly prepaid cell phone plans are much more convenient
than pay as you go, since many prepaid providers offer
extras similar to monthly cell phone plans such as
mobile-to-mobile minutes or nights and weekends as free
calling time. Since it's prepaid, you can't go over your
minutes, so these plans are perfect if you'll need to make
calls frequently but are on a budget. Monthly cell phone plans probably don't require a whole lot
of explanation; However, if you want the cheapest monthly
cell phone service you may still want to think about who in
your family is using pay as you go, or monthly prepaid by
that same cellular provider in order to get the most from
your free mobile-to-mobile minutes. This applies to all three cellular service types. Check with
your friends and family members. Find out who they are using
for service. If you are a Cingular customer, you can call
other Cingular customers, and GoPhone by Cingular customers
free and vice versa by taking advantage of your free
mobile-to-mobile calling. Verizon has similar plans with compatible mobile-to-mobile
between it's prepaid and monthly customers. Cingular also
offers roll over minutes, so any of your Cingular, or
GoPhone anytime minutes you don't use in any given month,
will roll over for use in the following month. So who offers the cheapest cell phone service? I would have
to say, even though their bottom line price is a little more
than other cell phone service providers, most people are
going to save money with the advanced calling features and
plans provided by GoPhone for prepaid, or Cingular for
monthly, with Verizon running a close second. So the next time you're searching for the cheapest cell
phone service, consider your usage habits, cellular plan
types, and friends and family with compatible services. Make
sure you consider these factors as a priority above bottom
line price. This way you'll get more for your money and find
yourself a winner. Daymon Hoag is the Founder of [http://www.cheapest-service.com]Cheapest Service. White Sun - The Three Persons
By Teow Aun Chew During the era of Confucius more than 2,500 years ago, the position of a master or a teacher was highly regarded as a person of virtue and wisdom. In addition to impart his wisdom to help solving all types of problems, he must also be able to pass on the sacred knowledge of Truth to others. So when he said, When three persons are walking together, there must be one who can be his master, who is the one that he is referring to? This master or teacher that Confucius was referring to is not any ordinary human being. When a Saint such as Confucius spoke, he knew exactly what he was saying as these statements were documented and compiled by his disciples into collection of his seminal teachings. Why did Confucius refer to only three persons and not more or less? There must be some deep meanings that he was trying to convey indirectly. He used the word must meaning he was very sure that amongst these three people, there must be one who can be our master. What if all these three people are lunatics or criminals? Can anyone of them fit to be our master? This was said more than 2,500 years ago where nobody could just simply walk around the street and ask anyone to be his master or teacher. If we look carefully into the mirror, we see two tiny reflections of own selves in our eyes. These two persons are little people and in Chinese, little people are called xiao ren which actually means people who are unscrupulous and unrighteous moral character. Devious or treacherous people are also known as xiao ren and also refer to a lay mortal being, a person whose existence carries little significance to the world. In that context, let us look and ponder for a moment why are our eyes considered as xiao ren? We often hear the saying of see no evil. Why do people say that? This is where most sins begin to start. The two eyes are the channels through which most temptations begin to take hold in our heart. Buddha referred to the two eyes as thieves, the thieves who could steal away the treasures inside our temple of God. We often get upset or angry by what we see and these two eyes can also deprive us from our basic goodness. The very reason that the two thieves steal is because the master of the house is still asleep. Who is this master that is still asleep? He is the master that Confucius refers to as his master! Look again carefully into the mirror; we can locate this third person on our face. This third person in the center between the two little persons is the big person and this big person is in the form of a Chinese character ren which means human. Ren comprised of two lines, one line on the left and the other line on the right and these two lines flow nicely along our cheeks beside our nose and join in between the eyes. At this joining point is the point of The Mystical Door which is also known as The Divine Eye or The Third Eye or The Dot. In Chinese big person is called da ren meaning superior person of magnanimity, nobility and righteousness. These three persons exist together when we are alive. When we are dead, these three persons are gone. It is like when a doctor sees a patient in coma, the first reaction is to shine a torch into the irises of the patient and see if the reflections of the two little persons are still there. If they are gone, it means that the big person inside is gone as well. Confucius tells us that out of these three persons, one can be his master and which one? The answer is obvious, the noble and the righteous one in the center. The Mystical Door is the root of our inner conscience and the True Self and is the point of utter goodness. It is our inner master and we should act and follow in accordance with its guidance. Our conscience is pure and before we do or say something, we should contemplate carefully with our conscience. By constantly referring to our inner master, we will be able to change our ways and overcome our shortcomings. It is important to nurture the strength of our inner master and let this master be the guide of our way of being and life. With regards to See no evil, do no evil, speak no evil and listen to no evil, my Heavenly Teacher JiGong said, Use your discerning eyes to know clearly the True and the False and your swift hands to build merits and foster virtues. Apply your light and speedy feet to step through the roads of the world. And your supple mind to manage the affairs of Tao. Let not your tidy and clean mouth pass on bad words and your clear and calm ears listen to gossip. Author: T.A Chew T.A Chew saw the vision of the three persons on 2nd November 1995 at around 4.30am. It was the manifestation of three holy ghosts from the underworld representing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the two criminals at the skull. Jesus Christ (superior person) was at the centre of the three and the two criminals (little persons) at his side representing the two eyes (the thieves). Why Litigation Is Nothing More Than A Business Tool - 26 Unbreakable Rules of Litigation!
By Daniel S. Pea, Sr From Bill Gates at the end of the last century to John D. Rockefeller at the end of the previous century; from Rick Scott, founder of Columbia Health Care, to AT&T: from Richard Branson and British Airlines to Dan Pea and The Financial Times; from government, banking, insurance and every other facet of world commerce - to grow geometrically and stay around, litigation must be (prudently) used and mastered. I will, as briefly as I can, memorialize the salient points of using litigation as a business tool. Now before I start, I want it on the record, some 50% of my 30-year track record of litigation has had nothing to do with winning money, i.e., many lawsuits have been over principle, some were to right a heinous wrong such as slanderous remarks made about me; and some were because an entity just needed a good comeuppance and nobody else would carry the flag into battle. I, like Don Quixote, have fought many a windmill. As you've heard me speak and write about, when building your 'Dream Team,' you want Big Five accountants and a large national or international firm of lawyers - the best representation you can't afford! Unlike the success-oriented fees I coach you to use when facilitating transactions, no law firm will litigate initially on this basis. Perhaps if your case is especially strong, they will do it on a contingency basis. Unfortunately, you will be using, from time-to-time, litigation as a positioning tool and your case may not be something you can seriously leverage. A year or two ago, being left with a pig-in-a-poke, I had to litigate a case having specious facts at best to support my desired outcome. Fortunately, our (my) apparent lust for litigation was stronger than their desire to fight a hard fight, so a reasonably good settlement was finally arrived at. Of course, during this process my good lawyers counseled us, advising our case needed to be much stronger, etc. Even with great lawyers, it is their job to tell you the downside risks. Again, what happens is you are often scared from pursuing your case. Good lawyers win so-so lawsuits. Great lawyers can win lawsuits in which you have little or no chance to win. Three of my favorite litigators over the years are Steve Susman and Cyrus Marter IV of Susman Godfrey in Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles and Seattle and Tim Harris of Charleston Revich & Williams in Los Angeles. All three have dug me out of some pretty big black holes. I've dealt with them 10 and 20 years respectively. They are worth every penny they charge! Our judicial system works, but we grow up being afraid of it. It's way out of our comfort zone so we preclude ourselves from benefitting from it. Normally the cost associated with it keeps us from using it. In fact, I'm currently embroiled in litigation where the ancillary players to the litigation have rights which are being severely violated. A large group of people could bring great pressure to bear, but they're afraid because of previous bad experiences. They could get what they deserve but aren't pursuing their best interests. There are lawyers who take on cases for humanitarian reasons, if the case warrants, in business as well, i.e., big major corporations taking advantage of the system because of their size alone. Why do you want to initiate the lawsuit so you are the plaintiff? As the plaintiff, you pick where and when the lawsuit is fought and probably ultimately adjudicated. This can be a huge advantage. And secondly, the plaintiff is allowed two closing arguments, meaning you (your lawyer) gets to address the judge and/or jury once and then again after the defendants' closing argument. This can also be very important. 26 Unbreakable Rules of Litigation #1 CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES #2 CHOOSE THE VENUE #3 BE THE PLAINTIFF #4 HAVE THE BEST REPRESENTATION #5 LISTEN TO YOUR HEART #6 DON'T LISTEN TO YOUR SICK STOMACH WHEN YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE #7 DON'T LISTEN TO RELATIVES, FRIENDS, ET AL #8 LISTEN TO EXPERIENCED LITIGANTS - LIKE ME! #9 GENERALLY SPEAKING, DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE COST (THIS IS VERY HARD!) #10 BIG LAWSUITS ARE BETTER THAN SMALL ONES #11 ELECT JURY TRIALS, AS OPPOSED TO A JUDGE ONLY #12 PREPARATION (YOURS) IS EVERYTHING - KNOW THE FACTS #13 PRACTICE DEPOSITIONS AND TRIALS #14 IF YOU ARE THINKING OF A BETTER STRATEGY, GET A NEW LAWYER (NOT TRUE IN MY CASE) #15 NEVER GIVE UP #16 DON'T BE INTIMIDATED BY THE PROCESS #17 USE MOCK TRIALS (PRETEND TRIALS YOU DO IN FRONT OF A HIRED JURY) #18 DRESS SIMPLE AND CONSERVATIVELY IN COURT - NO JEWELRY EXCEPT A WEDDING BAND; WHITE SHIRT, PLAIN TIE AND DARK SUIT FOR MEN AND THE EQUIVALENT FOR WOMEN; SHORT GROOMED HAIR FOR MEN #19 DON'T LOSE YOUR TEMPER IN COURT - IT'S OKAY TO CRY IF IT'S REAL #20 HAVE YOUR SPOUSE IN THE FRONT ROW EVERY DAY. Virtually all big law firms have good to super-good lawyers. All big law firms don't have great litigators. You don't always need a great lawyer, but sometime if you grow geometrically, you will. Like any other project management, litigation must be managed. Unfortunately, like speech-giving, you become a great litigant by going through a learning curve. I don't mean you have to get involved in losing efforts (like making bad speeches so after some time you make good speeches) to get in a position to win in court. Large law firms will allow you to get ahead of the learning curve. The Quantum Leap methodology talks ad nauseam about following your dreams. Life without dreams is like a bird with a broken wing - it can't fly. I wrote this newsletter because sometimes you'll need litigation to follow your dream. Go out and kick some butt, and don't let conventional wisdom keep you from achieving your dream. Conventional wisdom says Don't Litigate. All high-performance people and the great organizations of the last one hundred years did and do litigate as I write this letter. Don't litigate frivolously - but don't be afraid to either. A Brief History Of Cheesecake To 1545
By Andrew Krause Ever since the beginning of time, man has been striving to make the perfect cheesecake. Today, there are literally thousands of cheesecake recipes. Everyone has their favorite. But when did this craze really begin? How did we get from the early days of cheesecake to the famous New York Cheesecake that we enjoy today? Cheesecake was a very popular dish in Ancient Greece. But when the Roman's conquered Greece, the secret fell into the hands of the Romans and nothing's been the same since. Actually, the Roman version of cheesecake was much different from the Greek form of the delicious wonder. Roman cheesecake became known as placenta. It was sometimes baked on a pastry base and other times it was enclosed in a pastry case. The Roman cheesecake was actually often used as an offering to the Gods. In the first century BC, a gentleman by the name of Marcus Porcius Cato, came up with a wonderful recipe for cheesecake. He lived from 234 to 139 BC. He was a Roman politician. See, even politicians can have good taste in food. This recipe of his was the only work of his that was ever preserved, which is quite ironic since his main focus was in politics. This recipe that he came up with was often given as a temple offering. It wasn't until 230 AD that the first "modern" recipe for cheesecake was recorded. This was a recipe that was recorded by Athenaeus, a Greek writer. By today's standards, this recipe, which reads as follows, would be considered laughable. "Take cheese and pound it till smooth and pasty; put cheese in a brazen sieve; add honey and spring wheat flour. Heat in one mass, cool, and serve." That is the actual recipe as it was discovered by archeologists. Quite crude in comparison to the elaborate cheesecake recipes that we have today. It wasn't until 1000 AD that cheesecake was finally brought to Great Britain and Western Europe. This was done by Roman conquering armies. Shortly after this time cheesecake slowly spread throughout the area. The number of different recipes also started to increase and began to look a little more like the ones we're used to today. In 1545 the first cookbook containing a cheesecake recipe was printed. The book actually focused more on other types of foods as it was a traditional type of cookbook. But inside was one recipe for cheesecake printed below. To make a tarte of Chese - Take harde Chese and cutte it in slyces, and pare it, than laye it in fayre water, or in swete mylke, the space of three houres, then take it up and breake it in a morter tyll it be small, than drawe it up thorowe a strainer with the yolkes of syxe egges, and season it wyth suger and swete butter, and so bake it. You will notice the English is quite bad. This was how the actual recipe was printed. Obviously the English language itself has come a long way in 500 years. Since that time, cheesecake recipes have become quite elaborate and quite good. New York Cheesecake is probably one of the most popular. Now that you know how cheesecake came to be, why not run out and get yourself a good slice. You deserve it, after all. Keeping Weight Off is Hard to Do, But the Alternative is Unthinkable
By Geoff Morris In America today, one of the most talked about topics is the epidemic proportion of obesity amongst the population, and with it, the actual health of the nation. In CNN Presents, there is even a whole section called 'Fat Chance' (the next airing is February 5 at 8 p.m., 11 p.m. ET). http://imnosey.com/fp . Although there is a whole industry dedicated to diet control, weight loss programs, exercise programs, this is really like putting the cart before the horse. We all know how difficult it is to start - let alone maintain - a different, almost alien, style of existence, even though we fully understand the dangers that being overweight will bring us. Heart problems, diabetes, damage to the body joints through carrying excess baggage everywhere, are just a few of the many problems generated let alone the associated millions spent in extra health care repairing this damage. In fact although much aligned for being 'false' you very rarely see many successful Hollywood style actors carrying tremendous amounts of fat, unless it is deliberate. Why they should be maligned, it is difficult to know, as they should be treated as role models to many of us. But they don't just magically get these lean, muscular looking bodies there is a price to pay, and that price is discipline. Discipline not only in their dietary habits, but also in how they 'sculpt' their bodies. How do you think that actors may appear as skinny runts in one epic film, and then in the next, have a completely different body shape? Contrary to popular belief, it's not down to the makeup studio, but by darned hard work, and a dedication to meet targets, change habits, and have a goal that they are aiming for, which is usually a monetary one (although egos may have just a little bit of influence here). Whether you are a man or a woman, many of us carry around in our heads, that image of our perfectly shaped body, lean and muscularly toned, and with very little evidence of layers of blubber. It is a fact that every person has a 'six pack' -it's just very difficult to see it when the equivalent of a Wal*Mart shopping bag full of sloppy fat effectively smothers it (although normally full of the best value shopping). Unfortunately, unless you are introduced to some kind of disciplined action, this image remains what it is - just an image, and will die with you if you never get out of the upwardly fatty existence you have chosen for yourself. Now, one of the biggest, and most lucrative businesses to be in at the moment would seen to be weight control, and unfortunately, like everything else, the worried would-be weight watcher can lose their shirt by trying this solution, then that solution, then the next best thing solution. Because the one major thing missing in all of these is the discipline, the self control, the monitoring of what is going on. So many people jump from what may well be a good solution to the next as they see no perceptible results. One person who seems to have got this disciple nailed down to a fine art is a chap from the Mid West called Ryan Joyce. Ryan did a lot research on weight lifting and body sculpting some five years ago, and what he found was actually quite obvious. Contrarily to what every fast-buck-company claims about their so-called, "dieting secrets", "miracle weight loss pills", "super supplements", "special issue muscle magazines" and other "schemes", at this hour the majority of people trying to get fit and build the body of their dreams are simply not getting it done. What was missing was a comprehensive control of what people were doing. They would start off with the best of intentions, but after a couple of weeks with no appreciable success - well- it would be off to the next one. Ryan's approach was different. He spent a long time creating a solution for his own body, and actually reduced his body fat by over 57% in just over 12 weeks; this was a combination of exercise, diet control, the use of some supplements, and one heck of a lot of discipline. He then tried this program on a number of people, by creating a 12 week day by day diary of events, and found that he could reproduce results on others, as long as they strictly followed his program. OK, his web site has a massive following from natural body builders and fitness models, and aspiring actors who need to have the latest 'Ripped' or 'Shredded' look. (For those of you not in the know ' Ripped' refers to ripping off the fat and baring the muscles, Shredded refers to the highly defined definitions of major muscle groups like biceps). A lot of the success of this sort of approach is the 'Peer Pressure' it invokes. Once you have achieved the body of your dreams, you are not going to want to fill it up with cheap processed and fried food any more. And we all know that peer pressure is far more powerful than any Doctors warning about the danger we face while wobbling around with our fatty, cholesterol clogged arteries, with undue weight loads on our joints and backs. So 'Get Ripped', or 'Get Shredded', or whatever term you want to use - but turn your body back into the temple it is, and give it your full respect. You only ever have one, and you know what happens to buildings that get neglected over the years. Copyright 2006 Geoff Morris Geoff Morris has built up a multi-million dollar property portfolio, (http://propertyprofits4u.com)and has now turned his attention to personal fitness by taking over the site made famous by Ryan Joyce. This site cuts through all the confusion surrounding natural bodybuilders and fitness models.possible. Wedding Ideas for Brides: 5 Ways To Capture Your Wedding Memories Forever
By Lesley Mattos As far back as a girl can remember, she dreams of her wedding day. She imagines - to every last detail - things like: what type of wedding dress she will wear, what color the bridesmaids dresses will be and even more importantly, who that perfect man will be who becomes her husband. When that day finally arrives, it is the most important day of the brides life - a day she wants to look back on with fond memories for years to come. For more and more brides, one of the most perfect ways to capture their wedding is to create an Instant Photo Guest Book similar to the one created by Adesso Albums. Having such a keepsake, scrapbook or photo album to open up and share with your spouse, family and friends is the best way to capture the wedding days memory forever. Instant Photo Guest Books are a unique "marriage" of a photo album and a guest book. To create a photo guest book at a wedding, simply take Polaroid pictures, slip them into your guest book and have the guests write their personalized messages to you the bride and your groom on the guest book pages. This will capture your wedding event instantly in pictures and wordsand you wont even have to wait weeks to get your photographs returned from your wedding photographer. Youll be able to enjoy it as soon as its over. However, the beauty of these keepsake albums is that it can be used for all parts of your wedding event: engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, wedding, reception and even the honeymoon. Here are 5 other great ideas to capture your wedding moments: 1. Wish Bowl Heres an idea, that wont even cost you a dime. The purpose of a wedding Wish Bowl is to provide an opportunity for guests to wish good fortunes to follow the Bride and Groom wherever they go. The idea is to have your guests write their wishes for love and life on little slips of paper and place them into a crystal or decorative glass bowl or vase. You dont even have to buy one if you have a nice vase or bowl at home already. For a more formal presentation, the slips of paper can be placed into little matching wedding stationary envelopes. The stationary paper and envelopes should match the Brides color theme and/or wedding stationary. After the wedding events are over, the notes can be read and placed into a wedding album or scrapbook while the bowl or vase can be used for the home or decoration. 2. Wish Tree The Wish Tree theme, similar to the Wish Bowl, is for guests at the wedding to write down their wishes for love and life to the Bride and Groom - except instead of the bowl, a tree is used to collect the wishes. There are many types of Wish Trees - your can purchase metal ones, or fashion your own using blooming branches from a garden or florist, or even use a live potted plant such as a fichus tree. Gift boxes can be hung from the tree of your choice and your guests can take a box off the tree in exchange for their wishes. After the wedding events are over, the wishes can be taken off the tree and placed in a keepsake box, scrapbook or album. 3. Signature Platter Wedding Signature Platters or plates make a unique alternative to traditional wedding guest books. The platter can be plain, decorative or even custom designed and ordered online or from a wedding stationary store. Guests simply sign the platter during the wedding event with a special ceramic marker and after the wedding events are over, the platter is fired in your home oven. The special signature platter can be used for serving favorite dishes at future dinner parties as husband and wife or just as a decorative memento of the special gathering. 4. Framed Signature Mat Similar to the Signature Platter, the Signature Mat is another alternative to the traditional wedding guest book. A photo of the Bride and Groom - often a before wedding photo (like an engagement photo) - is placed in an acid free matte and mounted either on an easel or table in the entry area of the wedding reception. Guests sign their name and well wishes to the Bride and Groom on the mat surrounding the picture. The Signature Mat is then framed for the newlyweds new home. The before wedding photo can be replaced with a wedding photo of the couple before framing. 5. Typewriter Guest Book The Typewriter Guest Book is Martha Stewarts latest discovery for a guest book alternative. Look for an old-fashioned, inexpensive typewriter either online, from a flea market or thrift shop but make SURE it works - and set it out on a table in the entry area of the wedding reception. Load the typewriter with long sheets of paper for guests to type in good wishes to the Bride and Groom along with their name and any sentiment that comes to mind. After the wedding, the page can be tied into a scroll with ribbon or framed along with pictures taken at the wedding. The above 5 unique ways to capture your wedding moments will help you and your loved ones relive your wedding memories over and over again. Lesley Mattos, Founder of Adesso Albums has been happily pursuing her dream of helping people all over the world capture the Now in lifes most important moments. Of all the ways to capture your wedding memories, the Adesso Album is the only guess book alternative that provides an instant memory of your wedding event in both pictures and words. If you need the Polaroid gear, you can purchase it along with the guest books as part of a kit at http://www.adessoalbums.com/begin-polaroids-p-30.html. Nokia E65 - Get More Out Of Life
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alice_Erin]Alice Erin The Nokia E65 is destined to further strengthen the ever growing clout in the business solution category. This S40 platform based and Symbian OS operated smartphone includes all the top drawer features one can imagine in a 3G smartphone. The Nokia E65 's specification sounds like a dream and is most likely to be a result of its manufacturer's desire to create a masterpiece rather than driven by market demands. Initial glimpse of the Nokia E65's superiority can be gouged by its large TFT screen that can produce a massive 16 million different colours. Well differentiated keypad of this slider is ergonomically very comfortable. The Nokia E65 is well built, and is very compact at just 115 gm. The handset is available in two colours Black and a bit more jazzy Red. Function wise, the Nokia E65 is at par with any top end business solution in the present market. Other than the huge advantage of running third party applications, the Nokia E65 includes advanced office applications and connectivity features. The device is also compatible with Java MIDP 2.0 applications. The Nokia E65 's potential as a strong connectivity tool is unquestionable. Equipped with 3G technology, the phone can handle video calls across UMTS networks other than voice services across all four GSM mobile networks. Data speeds of 117.6 to 296 kbps through class 32 EDGE and GPRS may not sound fast when compared to 3G, but is very handy in areas devoid of 3G networks. HSCSD, WiFi, VoIP via WLAN, Bluetooth, Infrared, USB the Nokia E65 includes them all. The integrated camera of the Nokia E65 is 2.0 megapixel with video recording ability. You can preserve your precious moments of life in still pictures or high grade footage with the Nokia E65 to relive them later on. The handset is also fitted with a Mp3, AAC and MPEG4 player to keep you entertained on the go. With the Nokia E65, there is always a little more of what you can do. Top Web Site Blunders by Coaches, Consultants and Experts
By Marcia Yudkin Of all the web sites belonging to coaches, consultants and
experts that I have reviewed, more than three-quarters
shared a very serious marketing blunder: Their potential
clients wouldn't understand from their home page precisely
what they do. Jargon gets in the way. Many specialists believe that they need jargon to
communicate their expertise. Without it, they'd sound
incompetent, they think, and those in their target market
who are as specialized as they are wouldn't respect them.
My recommendation is not to eliminate jargon, but to
include it in the site, with your main emphasis on the
business benefits your company provides or the problems
your company solves. For instance, I've done an informal survey to see if
business owners understand the jargonistic tag line, "CRM
software for small business." Nope! Most aren't even sure
what "customer relationship management" really means. But
if you write, "Close sales faster and improve customer
loyalty through customer relationship management (CRM)
software for small business," you'll earn greater
comprehension, without alienating those who already know
the shorthand. Don't think this applies to you? Sorry, it does. Nearly
everyone in business overestimates - usually greatly
overestimates - the extent to which customers understand
their jargon. The other nearly epidemic blunder at sites belonging to
coaches, consultants and experts is not explaining clearly
and persuasively why someone should use you rather than the
competition. What's unique about you? How do you differ
from your colleagues? If everyone is qualified and
experienced, why should I choose you? With sufficient
thought and care, you can add text to your web site that
gets potential clients thinking, "This is exactly the
person who can help!" Related to this is the absence at many sites of two
powerful tools for credibly distinguishing yourself from
the competition: testimonials and expert articles.
Testimonials are quotes from clients you've helped, and
they should refer to results achieved with your help - not
just you being a competent, nice service provider - and be
signed with a complete name and business identifier or
geographical location. Expert articles engage visitors to
your site and show that you know your stuff. Finally, all coaches, consultants and experts need to have
a newsletter to capitalize properly on visits to their web
site. This is because people shopping for professional
services sometimes decide to buy that very day. More
often, they come to your site looking for information
rather than to hire someone. If they read a couple of your
articles, like them and sign up for your newsletter, you'll
have the chance to impress these potential clients
repeatedly. Down the line, they're likely to hire you,
sometimes without ever returning to your site. But your
site set that process in motion. Marcia Yudkin is the author of Web Site

By Daniel Roshard The garden gazebo is a thing of beauty, it has been known that in the past kings and queens had enjoyed gazebos in their royal gardens, setting up a trend of garden gazebos for historys rich and famous. Using a garden gazebo to any property is a wise step, it seems that what was true many years ago is even more convincing today. Some people use a garden gazebo to increase the value of their property, gifted gardeners can use a garden gazebo to create a division between parts of a garden. In some cases, a big enough garden needs a garden gazebo to hold all the tools that are needed to manicure the flowers and mown. These days almost anyone can own a garden gazebo, and assemble a garden gazebo in the backyard, garden gazebo kits offer the beauty of a wooden gazebo, many gazebos are available in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, ranging from Victorian and Amish styles to small to party size in diameter. Garden owners can purchase a garden gazebo kit and build their own gazebo by themselves, the kits can range in price and in quality, but the concept of DIY and the average low price allows almost anyone to experiment and enjoy his own garden gazebo. Garden gazebo kits differ not only in price but also in the material of which the garden gazebo is made of. These kits range in price depending on type of wood, which is generally either pine or one of a variety of types of cedar, and size. Each wood has its own benefits for your garden gazebo and once you have finished constructing the gazebo, you can choose to paint it, stain it or let it sit out and absorb the elements, allowing it to change to its naturally weathered color which is usually a light shade of grey. After you have decided on which wood to use for construction of your garden gazebo, you should figure what you need in terms of size. Once you set your mind of actually getting a garden gazebo, you will need think about the material and the weather in your area, these will have a significant effect on your gazebo and what you can expect of it. Most garden gazebos are made of wood, pine or cedar or the most popular ones, but there are many different gazebo kits out there, and it is common to find metal gazebo kits made of vinyl or aluminum. The huge advantage wood garden gazebos have is that they fit into a garden naturally, adding natural wooden quality that accents and compliments any garden. If you plan on purchasing a wooden garden gazebo, you will probably have to decide between pine or cedar wood. While pine is more affordable, cedar is less prone to rot. Thanks to the modern design of gazebo kits, constructing your own fashionable backyard structure has never been easier. All you have to do is set out all of the parts the gazebo manufacturer sends to you and then assemble them according to the instructions. Once you have built each of the walls of your garden gazebo, you should bring over some friends to help you tilt up each wall and put on the roof. While it is not incredibly trying work, it will generally take a day or two to complete. There are many options to get a gazebo to your oun backyard or garden, learn about Home And Garden Gazebos and http://gazebo.zupatips.com/Garden_Gazebo.html. Ingredients of Small Business Marketing
By Natalie Aranda A business may be small, but the efforts of operating it is not. Small business owners often wear many hats - financing, product development, marketing, sales and customer support. While major corporations have sufficient resources to kick off a thoroughly planned marketing campaign, small business marketing is often on a budget. Marketing a small business should not be limited to a single channel because of the size of your business. Customers will always go through the three phases of a purchasing decision making: 1) aware of the products or services, 2) collecting enough information before the purchase, 3) and action of purchasing. The ingredients of effective small business marketing provides the information they need at each stage of a purchasing process. Reach the Customers Most small businesses target local market. Your business, of course, should be listed on local phone directories. Ads on local newspapers and flyers will bring you business from your local communities as well. Distributing business cards is always one of the most popular and inexpensive ways for small business owners to market or advertise their services and products. For instance, some landscaping companies distribute business cards door-to-door in newly constructed communities. If your services involves with artistic design (interior design, web design etc.), color business cards or custom business cards are more effective. They show the artistic tastes of the designers. Provide Information About Your Products and Services Awareness of a product or service is the start-point for customers to make a purchase. They will further research and compare similar services or products before they make contact for possible purchase. Now that you need a brochure or a website to present your business with product details, testimonials etc.. If business card design makes a good first impression, brochure design and brochure printing (or booklet printing if you prefer) are effective for converting leads into sales. Brochures that you send out will get more attention if you enclose a personal note with personal touch to introduce yourself and your company. A professional Web site serves as an online brochure to promote your products or service so that the prospects can get the information about your business 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. Affordable Web hosting costs as little as $25-$50 a year. Call for Action Once customers have made up of their mind to purchase your services or products. The brochure or the website should offer clear direction for further actions. The advantage of a website over brochure is that you are able to update as frequently as you want, offer discount or incentives for customers who make purchase in a certain timeframe. When theyre ready, a transaction is just a few clicks on a website powered with online shopping carts. Natalie Aranda writes on small business and marketing. Best Fly Fishing Locations in the World
By Noah Fleming There are thousands of great fly fishing spots world-wide. Deciding on the best places is really a matter of taste, but here is my wish-list. British Columbia Traditional fresh water fly fishing. It is also fly-in fishing because there is no road access to many of the best spots. Several species of salmon, trout, steelhead are available, as well as char and sturgeon. Kamchatka, Russia - Ever the traditionalist, Rainbow trout originated here before migrating to the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. The food rich waters of the Overlay River produce rainbows that average five pounds, and twenty-one inches in length.
Guatemala Fly Fishing for Pacific Sailfish in Central America. Huge Sailfish that like to fight. Not traditional, but exciting. France The Pyrenees Mountains. Wild brown trout are plentiful in higher elevations. There is no catch and release here if you stay away from the posted no kill areas The French believe in eating their catch, with some great wine. Much of the rest of the country has stocked fish. Southern England, Scotland, Wales Fishing along the coast for Sea Trout, Grayling, Salmon, and Brown Trout, depending on which species you choose fishing for Sea Trout and Salmon where fresh water runs into salt water, or Scotland where the Grayling fishing is considered the best in Europe. Marco Island, Florida The fly fishing here is for the larger saltwater variety. Barracuda, Black Grouper, Flounder, King Mackerel, Mutton Snapper, Permit, Redfish, Sharks, Snook, Tarpon, and Yellow Snapper are some of the varieties available to fly fishermen.
All of these areas are fantastic spots to fly fish, offering a wide range of fishing opportunities. All have professional outfitters, and guides, however prices are steep as one would expected for the best fishing on earth. If you enjoyed this article and are ready to hit the streams consider checking out the fly fishing guide book for more info. Some Great Trout Fishing Tips
By Trevor Kugler As the weather begins to get warmer and we start thinking about things like fishing, many anglers pursue trout in the early spring. Although there are many ways to catch these fish I wanted to go over a few tips that may increase you catch rate. I personally find the spring to be a difficult time to catch trout, especially as the water begins to rise and rivers become high and muddy. If you can catch the rivers before the high water, you'll be okay; otherwise you may be reserved to lake fishing. Either way, here are some tips to help you catch more trout Use Gang Hooks - If you don't know what gang hooks are, they are simply two small hooks tied in tandem. This enables the angler to present a worm or minnow in an incredibly natural way. Gang hooks also enable the angler to present double the dough bait (such as Powerbait). Think about it, don't you think that having two balls of Powerbait floating off of the bottom would be better than just one? As The Current Increases, Increase The Length Of Your Rod - In the spring when the water is higher than normal I use my six foot ultra light rod, rather than my four footer. The extra length makes fishing in heavy current that much more effective. The heavier the flow of water, the longer fishing rod, that's a rule I live by. If A Bait Isn't Working, Change It - This is especially true for those of you fishing lakes with some sort of bait, including Powerbait. If you've been fishing maggots for an hour without a bite, change to worms or Powerbait. If blue Powerbait hasn't produced a bite in an hour, change to a different color. Making a small change can make all the difference. Have A Little Patience - I realize that having a little patience is no great realization in the sport of fishing, but it's still important. Fish can't be caught on every cast or even every time we go out fishing. Give a certain technique or lure a half hour or forty five minutes, and then switch to a different one. Dont be changing things up every five minutes. Give things a chance to work and then change. Clean You Hands Before Baiting Up - The human scent isn't appealing to fish at all. Fish have a tremendous sense of smell and if they smell something foreign on your bait or lure, they are much less apt to attempt to eat it. I like to grab a handful of grass and rub it in my hands. This covers the scent of my hands, and I believe, increases the amount of bites I get. Cleaning your hands is especially true if you are a smoker (as I used to be). Beginning to employ these tips will increase the amount of bites that you get while fishing, it's as simple as that. The tips will help with the bites, but the catching is up to you. You're the one that actually has to set the hook, and reel the fish in. The bottom line is that these tips will, at the very least, help you get more bites. Good luck and good fishing! Tips for Reducing Wedding Stress
By Jen Carter Its three days before your wedding, and you are almost pulling your hair out from wedding stress. While getting engaged and fulfilling marriage is an exciting event, the culmination of planning details and crescendo of stress associated with your wedding can cause a meltdown for many bride and groom. The planning stage of the wedding, whether the event is a small one involving close family and friends, or a gala affair of 400 people, is a tedious yet all important aspect of a successful wedding. Here are some tips and advice we have accumulated over the years that may help you reduce your wedding stress. Plan your Wedding Early: Almost without doubt, those who begin planning the wedding details earlier experience less stress later in the game. The more clear and concise the details are the better position the bride and groom are in during those critical days leading up to the event. Starting early can mean choosing a generalized wedding theme, and then brainstorming for the most important aspects associated with it the location for the ceremony, reception. Gathering resources help from friends and family, and possibly help from a wedding consultant and coordinator really help solidify the plan. Take Time for Yourselves: Dont ever forget the reasons why you and your spouse are doing this for love and for devotion and commitment. Many spouses lose focus of this as they follow through with their wedding planning details. Remember that no wedding is perfect. Keeping the love and excitement right through the wedding is also very important. Some things you can do to unwind during the planning stage may be: Talk with close friends a lot. Tell them your frustrations, your concerns, your expectations of how this wedding should flow. Talking your wedding through from beginning to end can really help reduce wedding stress. Spend romantic time with your spouse. Plan a surprise one-night date and promise yourselves to not talk about the wedding whatsoever during that time. Pretend almost as if you are back to the stage of dating and keep it fun, mysterious and romantic. Break your date up into two parts one where only body language is allowed, and one where talking and socializing about anything not about weddings is emphasized. Stay away from busy places. Hit the gym, go for long walks (preferably away from people beaches and hikes work very well) Many people can significantly reduce stress by staying active in sports if possible during the wedding planning stage. Take long, hot baths, and pamper yourself with anything and everything you can during your bath. Spas, saunas and anything of the sort are great at this time. Trust in your faith of your friends and family. They want your event to pull off with a bang as well. Stick with your wedding plan from the beginning, but always ebb and flow with last minute changes. The wedding plan, while a very important guideline to follow, it simply that a guideline. Always remember, the biggest part of reducing wedding stress is having fun! How Do I Catch Bass?
By Steve Dolan Bass Fishing If you've done any bass fishing, then you'll already know that it's not as simple as just putting a line in the water and waiting for them to bite. One of the best things about bass fishing is that it requires skill and patience to be successful. So it's important to put as many factors in your favor as possible, so that you have the best chance of catching a bass. Let's take a look at a few tips for successful bass fishing. As Conditions Change so Should Your Fishing Tactics The weather matters! In the cooler weather, such as early spring and fall, bass are much more responsive to top water lures. They're also more likely to be found in shallow water, such as along the shoreline where there are overhanging trees. When it gets hotter, though, bass retreat to deeper, cooler holes, and you need a change of strategy. Basically you need to dredge the bottom, and use something like a plastic worm to get the bass to respond. Time of day is also important, with dawn and dusk the best times to catch the biggest bass. Look for ambush spots where bass might be lurking in wait for baitfish. They like to pounce on their prey, and these bait fish are most active early morning or evening. This method works best when the water is warmer, above 50 degrees Fahrenheit, because a lot of baitfish aren't active in cooler temperatures. Water Quality Matters! The quality of the water you're fishing in makes a difference to your bass fishing tactics too. In muddy water, for example, bass use their sonar to locate food. So choose lures that vibrate well and perhaps make some noise. In clear water, though, bass are very cautious and wary of anything unusual. So you need light lines, and lures that closely resemble local food sources. Spinners can work, but you may find a black spinner blade will reduce the flash and be more successful. In normal water quality, with some algae and plankton to filter out sunlight, most types of lures can be used. It's often a good idea to set up three outfits, using a different lure for each one, to see which one is working the best. For example, you could use a deep diver on one, a surface lure on the next, and a plastic worm on the third. What's the Best Bait? A large survey of bass fishing enthusiasts found that the plastic worm was considered the most effective lure by a big margin, so when in doubt, try a plastic worm and see what happens. It's also good to talk to local fishermen if youre not familiar with the area, and ask them what they recommend. Most bass fishing enthusiasts are happy to find another enthusiast to swap stories with. Steve Dolan is an avid fisherman who loves to catch bass Click on Bass Fishing to find top tips and tricks. Zachary's Tale - A Journey Into Sensory Disfunction
By Jennifer Sprague The time on the clock says 9:30; I look down at my sleeping little boy, whom I have just quietly rocked to sleep. He is still latched on somewhat, comfort nursing. As we rock I stare down at him and wonder what his future might hold. Zachary is my 27- month old son, and has been diagnosed (I hate that word; to me it some how implies that there's something wrong that medicine could fix) with Sensory Integration Dysfunction and delayed speech, as well as having some feeding or eating issues. These diagnoses were made about 6 months ago with a team of qualified therapists and specialists. Life with and for Zachary is not at all like the life I had envisioned for him. Of course as a new mom, you have all the hopes, expectations and desires that every new mom has. Also, with having an older child, my work in a preschool and being a nanny; I had an idea of what was to come. I thought I knew to expect talking, walking, fine motor skills, eating on queue as well as other things. It all seemed so laid out in some sort of master plan, at least it did for all of the kids I had ever seen before. Around the time my son turned one I began to really take notice of little differences in him, differences that most first time moms might not have noticed until much later. One thing I noticed was his lack of wanting to eat baby foods (he was still nursing for most of his food, and even today nurses for a good portion of the food he takes in). His inability to fall asleep easily (it can take him between 30 minutes to 2 hours to fall asleep) and his lack of making little baby noises (Zachary was never a "babbler" and at 27 months has JUST started to babble) struck me. Even his ability to walk was off (he was always bumping into things). He was a SUPER active (almost over-active) little boy who craved motion, especially in climbing, still does. At this point, I decided to turn to several close trusted friends, whom all suggested the book, "The Out of Sync Child". While reading this book, on almost on every page, on almost every area I was shaking my head in agreement with just about everything that was being said! "YES" I thought, finally something that described "my child," something that could give me ideas that enabled me to help him, and where I could go to get help for him! I had finally found something that "made sense". Every aspect of Zachary's life seemed to some how make sense; even things I did not think were connected, I learned were! Every area touched on within the book seemed to directly (at least in some part) correlate with what Zachary was doing and/or seemed to be feeling. How he was acting or reacting to the world and life around him finally started to make sense to me! So, about half way though the book, I called my state program Early Intervention. We set up a meeting for 5 months later; it seems nothing in the "system" works fast. On the date of his evaluation, he was formally given the diagnoses of Sensory Integration Dysfunction, with a speech delay. For us Zachary's sensory and speech issues follow us all day long, every day. So could you walk a mile in his shoes? Maybe you could.. That is, if you ever got your socks on "just right." You may need to have them taken on and off five or six times to get the seams so they lay "just so" and the tightness around the leg to be "ok." Then you would need to scream though putting on a fleece or cotton union suit, because you can not communicate to anyone, what's wrong with this particular outfit. Then, while it's being put on; you pull, yank, cry and even scream (sometimes hitting, if it is extra painful) until the suit gets on perfectly so the seams are "ok" or the tags are not sticking you in the back. Maybe you could.. if your mommy would tell you three or four times before you change activities, making sure you heard and understood. Repeating herself over and over, because the lights are in your eyes, your sister is breathing and talking, or the fan is on; making it nearly impossible for you to concentrate on what she's saying. Maybe if you understood that the texture, smell and taste of most foods, would be too much for you. So much so that meal times will be nearly impossible for you to cope with. But knowing that you're one of the "lucky ones", your mom is still comfortable with nursing you, so you at least have a good form of nourishment. Since you would nurse anywhere from 4 to 10 times a day. Maybe if you heard EVERY little bump, burp, and voice no matter where they came from within the house. All those noises crowding into your mind would be making it nearly impossible for you to concentrate on the most simple of tasks, from playing to learning. Being unable to communicate to let anyone know that any of them is even bothering you. Maybe if you could crave putting everything into your mouth, because you need that form of stimulation. If you really had NO way of communicating except for grunting, or crying. You'd have no way to let the world around you know anything about what was going on in your head, your thoughts or feelings. No way to show that you're feeling totally lost. Maybe if you picked incessantly on yourself, your "boo-boos," and fingers until they bleed, without even feeling the pain of what you're doing. Or if strangers looked at you, rolling their eyes, or pointing there fingers at you, because you're grunting instead of talking or you're hitting yourself instead of playing. Maybe if you could not last at a single task longer than two or three minutes, all the while hating transitions and screaming, crying and throwing a fit at every change that had to be made, no matter how small. If you got sick every time you got into the car because of the lack of control. If you could climb to very high places and just jump off, without the fear of being hurt. If going into a crowed place literally freaked you out, for no other reason other than all the people. If the idea of pouring water, or anything onto your head or into your face sent you spiraling into a tailspin of screaming and clawing for a breath, because you believed that you were being suffocated. Maybe, if you could live every day, feeling, just like this, you could. But I don't, for one second, think so. To look at Zachary, you would think "no problem" he's a normal little boy. However, that's not the case, what I've described is just a small piece of what my little boy goes though EVERY minute of EVERY day. I don't think you could do it, nor do I think you would want to. The therapists he works with now are helping a HUGE amount. Zachary is now using some sign language to talk to us, is babbling, and is much more willing to try foods and other things that make him "ick-a-fied". It is, however, a very good thing that I got him into the program at his young age. Research shows that working with a young mind is much easier than working with an older one. Young children are felt to have a "plastic" brain, meaning that it can still be rebuilt or changed. The older a child gets the harder it is to change the behaviors and structure. One of the huge battles kids like Zachary face is that they appear so "normal", there are no "tell tail signs" that there is something "amiss" deep within their little brains. So people look at them and think, "normal, no issues" then start to think there's something emotionally wrong with them. In general terms, Sensory Integration Dysfunction is basically the inability for the brain to process the information that is brought in though your senses (whether those senses are internal or external). The dysfunction happens in the central nervous system deep within the brain. So basically it's when a "glitch" occurs, and the brain can not analyze, organize, connect or integrate the sensory messages it is being sent. Internal or near senses would be; vesicular sense (the inner ear) which processes information on movement, gravity and balance, the tactile sense (skin) which processes touch, as well as the proprioceptive sense (muscles and joints) which process information about the body positions and body parts. The external or far senses would be smell, touch, sight and sound. The end result being that the child (or adult) suffering from Sensory Dysfunction can not correctly respond to sensory information, in turn making meaningful consistent behavior nearly impossible for them. Where a "normal" child just has it, the child with a sensory dysfunction has to work, and work HARD at achieving it. The child can have an over sensitivity, under sensitivity or both (which is most often the case.) Children like my son, who have sensory problems, are literally fighting an internal fight with themselves every day, only processing half of what the world around them has to offer. Maybe, you think you have the abilities to walk around in my son's shoes.. However, I don't think you could walk in those shoes.. Not because the shoes are too small but because.. You're not special enough. Jennifer Sprague, co-owner of "Attachment Parenting Products with High Top Baby Designs" High Top Baby Designs. What Every Woman Should Know About Men and Why Some Men Are Interesting - Part 2
By Ed Bagley (Editor's Note: Part 1 dealt with A Man's Five Basic Jobs: 1) Defend his loved ones. 2) Protect his loved ones. 3) Provide for his loved ones. 4) Encourage his loved ones. 5) Lead his loved ones.) A Man's Five Basic Tendencies But, alas, women it is not to be. Here is where your dream world begins to fall apart. Just as a man has five fingers on his right hand there are five creative tendencies a man must overcome to live out his life. 1) He believes he is indestructible. I know this is not rational, is silly and difficult to believe, however, it is tied to his ego and allows him to also do the five jobs his analytical mind tells him he must do. It is because a man can be an extremely competitive creature that he can put his life on the line for his family when defending them and protecting them. A man, especially when he is younger, can be exciting, dangerous and foolish. He will buy his dream sports car and drive it down the freeway as fast as he can to see how fast he can go, and sometimes with his loved ones in the car. He will dive off of a 50-foot cliff to see if he can meet the water in the 10-foot space between the rocks below. Sometimes he will accomplish that feat, sometimes he will become paralyzed and sometimes he will kill himself in a fit of bravado. Generally, somewhere around age 40 or 50 he will work in the yard all day Saturday and be totally stunned when he cannot get out of bed Sunday morning. This is the point in his life when he realizes he is not the man he used to be. If he uses the brains God gave him he will not continue take risky chances. If he has learned anything from the experience, he will begin to live a more sane life. 2) He believes his reach should exceed his grasp. A man will try to do more than he is physically, mentally and emotionally capable of doing. He will set impossible goals and then prove he cannot achieve them. He will set no limits on himself. He has an ego. He will work himself to death while ignoring his marriage, his children and the needs of his family, and he will justify this behavior because he can barely get past his third job: provide for his family. He will justify his behavior in his mind because sometimes he is really escaping a situation at home that he does not want to face. Rather than face the music he is willing to play the music alone and suffer the consequences, generally divorce. Couples can fight about money and how to raise their children, but when they end up in divorce court it is usually because of a lack of communication. How many times have you heard a woman say he just won't talk to me? When your man is not talking to you ladies, that is the first sign that your marriage is in trouble. 3) He believes he will live forever. No kidding. He actually believes he will live forever. It never really occurs to him that he will die someday. He has been told this more than once; he comprehends what is being said, but he really does not believe it. Women do not share this problem. I expect because they become very aware of just how fragile life is when birthing a newborn. It generally does not even occur to a man that he will die until he is well past 50. When this realization strikes him, it is like a bolt of lighting. Sometimes it occurs when his father dies, and then he realizes that he is next. There are things that you will notice when his belief in this matter changes. He will not leave home when the guys come by to go drinking and watch the game. He will become more aware about who he is with, where he is at and what he is doing. He now realizes that the meter on the taxi is running. He now understands that the alarm has been set on his clock, and it is ticking down. 4) Someone once said that every man needs someplace to go, something to do and someone to love. I believe that they are correct. Think about it. A man needs someplace to go, this is the explorer in him. A man needs something to do, this is the automatic work ethic in him. He must be at work, or he could be a nuisance at home. A man needs someone to love because he needs acceptance. You will notice that a woman who loses her husband at age 50 because he has worked himself to death can live another 30 years without a man in her life and be quite content. A man who loses his wife at age 50 will find another woman very soon or he will die, literally. When a man loses his partner, he will make it his business to find another, and he will not make a career out of it because he already has a career. A man loses his woman and six months or a year later he marries again, usually to someone younger. Many men do not wait to lose their wife. When they perceive they have lost something in a relationship, they simply dump their wife and find a younger model. I do not have to give women names; they can name on cue the men who have done so, both the famous and the infamous. 5) This is the most salient advice that I can give a woman about men: Listen carefully to what a man says but watch what he does, what he does is who he is. A man will always whisper sweet nothings in a woman's ear but once he is out of bed he barely notices his conquest. In today's world young girls and young women have bought into the media hype that they need to walk around half naked and sleep with any guy if they want to date or have any shot at a relationship. They are being hoodwinked. Our culture and society has become so liberal, so permissive, so pleasure seeking and so self-centered and self-absorbed that the mantra is all about me. Young girls have Paris Hilton, Britany Spears and Lindsay Lohan as role models. What young girls and young women need to know is that after young boys and young men have had their way with them they will discard them like they would a hot dog wrapper at a baseball game. When these same young boys become young men and think about marriage they will not be interested in used goods. Any girl or young woman who has been passed around and has slept with multiple partners will get less attention. A man who is worth marrying and having children with has learned impulse control and has the ability to feel an urge and delay acting on it. A man who cannot or will not control himself is no better than the girls and young women he is indiscriminately sleeping with. Someone arbitrarily decided that casual sex does no damage whatsoever to one's psyche or emotional well being. They are, of course, dead wrong but too immature to realize it and calculate the damage. Oftentimes when they grow up they are unable to have a lasting relationship and they wonder why. This is true for both men and women. I do not have to postulate about this, the divorce rate, heartache and failed relationships prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt. If the fundamental basis of a marriage is great sex, you have a serious problem that is not going to go away. Marriage should be for a long time and great sex at some point may not survive the duties and responsibilities of living.
